Huntington Ingalls Industries (NYSE:HII) announced today that Bharat Amin has been appointed vice president and chief information officer for the company's Newport News Shipbuilding division.

Amin joins Newport News after serving as chief information officer for BAE's Land & Armaments division.He is a mechanical engineer with master's degrees in industrial engineering and business administration. Amin also has experience in business processes, technology development, cyber security and large information technology project implementation.

In his new position, Amin will oversee the shipyard's strategic direction and will have day-to-day leadership over all information systems at Newport News and the HII corporate office.

Amin will assume his new position on Dec. 15 and transition into the job with the help of Leni Kaufman, who will retire from the position on Dec. 31 after 35 years of service that began with Northrop Grumman.

"Although Leni did not begin her career with Newport News Shipbuilding, she has demonstrated through her dedicated leadership, enthusiasm and commitment to the shipyard that she is a true shipbuilder in every way," said Newport News Shipbuilding President Matt Mulherin. "We look forward to working with Bharat and putting his extensive engineering and IT experience to work in this very important role."
